The first two are definitely not it. It's between affect and effect. Here's a link that shows the difference http://grammar.yourdictionary.com/style-and-usage/affect-effect-grammar.html since we have "an _____" more or less, this means a noun must go in the blank. Examples would be like "an orange" or "an apple". So effect goes in the blank because it's a noun
