Yes, it is encouraged to answer questions even if they are posted in the wrong section. Pointing out that a question is in the wrong section is curtious and should not be shameful in any way, which you balanced magnificently :)

personally, I don't believe your explanation had actually answered the user's question (answer should have been something closer to "buffalo's dried poop and/or fur can be used to light fires")

Oh thanks ^_^ let me clarify that buffalo fur is fuel especially if it heats up faster
