I do not think there is a proper section for welding.

In general, any sort of project should display the majority of the skills developed in the course.  If the course covered pipe fitting, then you better have some tubing or pipe in there that is cleanly joined.  If it is more general, stick to those things.  If there is brazing as well as welding, allow for some of that to be employed.

That is really the main consideration.  Artisitc or practical is more a personal choice unless the teacher asks for only one or the other.  In all cases, in all classes, at all times, this sort of final project needs to be inclusive.  That is really all you need to remember for any and all classes.
