@jim_thompson5910 @dan815

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

do you have a TI calculator? Like a TI83?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no :( @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok let me find one for you

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

here's one https://www.easycalculation.com/statistics/five-number-summary.php simply type in your numbers (one group at a time) and calculate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wat number is this for @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's for finding the five number summary

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what five number summary do you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how to find the iqr @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

IQR = Q3 - Q1

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Q1 is the first quartile Q3 is the third quartile

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so will it be 13 for Bryce and 1 for Brianna ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I am not getting 13 for the IQR for Bryce. You made an error somewhere

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you have the correct IQR for brianna

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for Bryce I got 80 for the min. 85.5 for the FQ. 91 for the Med. 98.5 for the TQ and 100 for the max so when u subtract u get 13 for Bryce. what did u get @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Bryce IQR = Q3 - Q1 = 98.5-81.5 = 17

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

btw the notation FQ and TQ should be replaced with Q1 and Q3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see wea I went wrong thanks ...ok for number 2 I said Bryce should get it because he had the higher grades and iqr than Brianna...right? @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I got this comparison

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

They seem to be split 50/50 in terms of who has larger scores but Bryce does have larger Q3 and max values however, in terms of consistency, brianna is more consistent since her IQR is lower

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how should I word it @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

write out what you think and I'll look it over

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the student I think should get the math award is Bryce because even though they are both split 50/50 for who has the higher grade he does have a higher IQR than Brianna which makes her more consistent. @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

having a larger IQR means things are more spread out which means that his grades aren't as consistent as brianna's grades the larger IQR is not a good thing. It's better to be consistent and aim for a good grade as well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

number 3 @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

add up all of bryce's scores then divide by 8 (there are 8 numbers in bryce's list)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 90 @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

me too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's the answer @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah for xbar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do I go ion to number 4 @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's it for number 3 can I go on to 4 @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sure
