What is the area of the figure? cm2 Five sided figure with base equal to fifteen centimeters. A horizontal dashed line in the middle of the figure is parallel to the base and equal to fifteen centimeters. A triangle formed by the dashed line and the top two sides has a height of eight centimeters. The height of the whole figure is equal to thirteen centimeters. http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1564500_1565000/1564708/1/e69c3849d8fde1dc2b089f465dd149c73f1b90d5/MS_IMB-1401012-1100605.jpg

am i supposed to add up all the bases then multiply the that by 13?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or find the area to the top shape by multiplying 15 by 8, then multiply the bottom by 15 x(13-8)?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

remember that area of a triangle = 1/2 * base * height Area of a rhombus = height * length :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thankyou! the answer i got was 195

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

you're welcome BUT the answer is not 195 :O Try again :) Area of triangle = 1/2 * 15 * 8 = ? Area of parallelogram = 15 * (13 - 8) = 15 * 5 = ? Add them up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 135? (sorry it took so long, i was trying to use the draw thing and my computer went all wonky)

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

that's correct :)! And it's okay ahaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

no problem :)
