help plz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Below are two different functions, f(x) and g(x). What can be determined about their y-intercepts? f(x) = x + 4 x g(x) −1 8 1 0 2 −4 The function f(x) has a higher y-intercept. The function g(x) has a higher y-intercept. They both have the same y-intercept. The relationship between y-intercepts cannot be determined.

Nnesha (nnesha):

g(x) is same as y so first of all find y-intercept of de table

Nnesha (nnesha):

y=mx+b is a slope intercept form where m is slope and b is y-intercept f(x)=x+4 <----what is the y-intercept in this equation ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right and what's the y-intercept of table ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

the*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is 0, 8, and -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brb please i have to go help my mom out

Nnesha (nnesha):

nope 0 ,8 and -4 are y values not y-intercept first of all you have to find slope of the table and then y-intercept

Nnesha (nnesha):

alright :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant \[\frac{ 8 }{ 2 } = \frac{ 4 }{ 1 }\\= 4\]

Nnesha (nnesha):

formula is \[\huge\rm \frac{ y_2 - y_1 }{ x_2 - x_1 }\]plug in x and y values u forgot something .-.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[0 - 8 = -8 and 1 - (-1) = 2\] so we got -4 because \[- \frac{ 8 }{ 2 } = -4\]

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now what?

Nnesha (nnesha):

now y = mx + b replace m by -4 plug in x and y values solve for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so y = -4x +b 8 = -4(-1) + b 8 = 4 + b -4 - 4 4 = b b = 4

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right that's the y-=intercept of the table

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its C because they both have the same y-intercept

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me with more because your so good at getting me to understand it and doing it myself :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill post them in a new thread so you can get more medals

Nnesha (nnesha):

i'll try and u can post here :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

Alton has been recording the number of apples on his apple tree each week: Week Apples 2 15 3 22 4 29 5 36 The function representing Alton's apples per week is f(w) = 7w + 1. What does the 1 represent? The number of apples at the start The week number when Alton recorded the apples The number of apples Alton had in total The number the apples increased by each week

Nnesha (nnesha):

any idea ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me read it again

Nnesha (nnesha):

alright

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the y - intercept right because you said b = y-intercept or it means y intercept

Nnesha (nnesha):

yep one is the y-intercept so what would be ur answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the numbers of apples at the start

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right bec when u substitute 0 for w f(0)=7(0) + 1 you will get one so y-intercept is also the starting point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thnx i have a coup[le more

Nnesha (nnesha):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im gonna try to solve the next one on my own and you tell me if its right or wrong but this is the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On the graph of the equation 8x − 3y = 24, what is the value of the y-intercept? −8 8 −3 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8x - 3y = 24 -8x - 8x -3y = -8x + 24 /-3 /-3 y = -8x -8 so is the y - intercept -8

Nnesha (nnesha):

alright that's right y-intercept is -8 but slope is not -8 divide both side by -3\[\frac{ -3y }{ -3} = \frac{ -8x+24 }{ -3 } = \frac{ -8x }{ -3 } +\frac{ 24 }{ -3}\]

Nnesha (nnesha):

-8x+24 OVER -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay so its like this \[\frac{ -8x + 24 }{ -3 }\]

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right -8x is dividing by -3 and 24/-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay but is the answer -8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the y-intercept?

Nnesha (nnesha):

so how would you write equation in slope yintercept form ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y = \frac{ -8 }{ 3 }x - 8\]

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Based on the table of values below, find the slope between points where x = 3 and where x = 7. x y 3 1 4 6 7 9 −4 \[\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }\] 1 2 <--- my choice

Nnesha (nnesha):

how did you get -4 and 1/4 ?

Nnesha (nnesha):

ohh wait those are the choices alright how did you get 2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4 , 1/4, 1, 2 are my answer choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i did \[\frac{ 9 - 1}{ 7-3 } = \frac{ 8 }{ 4 }\] = 2

Nnesha (nnesha):

yes right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay lol good i thought i did it wrong lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After 3 months of living at his new house, Tony had 4 birds. Four months later, Tony still had 4 birds. Which of the graphs below models Tony's bird population? graph of line going through 4, 0 and 4, 8 graph of line going through 0, 4 and 7, 4 <- my choice graph of line going through 1, 5 and 4, 8 graph of line going through 4, 0 and 7, 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me know if you want the picture of the graphs

Nnesha (nnesha):

i have to go make a new post and yes we need graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay
