PLEASE HELP! ONE QUESTION, NEED HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

330=6x+9y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are we trying to do with 330=6x+9y ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve it I came up with the equation on my own, so if you could overlook the question that would be great.. I will post in a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Andrew makes $6 an hour plus $9 an hour for every hour of overtime. Overtime hours are any hours more than 40 hours for the week. Andrew earned $330 in 1 week. How many hours (regular plus overtime) did he work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it might just be 240+9y=330 ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question 330 = 6x + 9y Solving this can go two ways, either for 'x' or for 'y' ~

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need the total hours the worked so the total of x+y i think??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What u have to find?? From first question?? Eq of straight line?? Or u want to equal it both sides??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whattt?? I posted the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@haloqueenB258 You are correct. Since 40 hours at $6 per hour means $240, then the equation is simply 9y + 240 = 330, where y = the number of hours of overtime. Solve the equation above for y, then add the answer to 40 to find the total number of hours he worked.
