What is meant by the chair confirmation of cyclohexane? Which form of hydrogen atoms on the ring is more stable axial or equatorial, and why?

Well, when you have a substituted cyclohexane ring, equitorial is preferred, since this prevents steric hindrance between the substituent.

steric hindrance, the methyl group can block an incoming group. it is a possibility, of other larger groups, like SO\(_4\) groups or something of the like.
