Opinions needed! For my English assignment, I need to conduct a poll about social media. I need to collect opinions from at least 5 people. There's two questions, and I would really appreciate any answers I could get :) Q1: Do you think social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook or Twitter are beneficial or harming to our generation? Q2: Explain why in at least 1 sentence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

beneficial because the would is evolving into the world of technology and that is how we stay connected nowadays ,

Q1: I believe it could go both ways. For one, social media is a very handy thing to be able to keep up with friends/loved ones. You're easily connected to one another. However, it can also be quite harmful. Social media could cause extreme conflicts. (Which is why cyber bullying is such a big problem)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also that is peoples jobs . We make money and if it was not hear some people will be homeless .

I think all social media is very harmful to our generation, believe this because of all the negative energy that seems to gather about everything, which is not what the internet was initially used for

I agree with catsjpg because social media is like a double edge sword. It's both beneficial and harmful for this generation. Social media can be used to reunite with old friends from school or establish new friend connections from your current workplace or college. However, users are abusing the Internet because they are using anonymous identities to stalk, bully, or harass people. Furthermore, your real name is required on Facebook, and there have been reports of employers asking for passwords to access your account.

Thank you all for your wonderful opinions! I appreciate the time you took to write these excellent responses :) They're helping me a lot with the essay portion of this assignment. I become a fan of everyone here, as I unfortunately can't assign multiple medals (and you all deserve one)

I believe it is both beneficial and harmful. Yes, we can see what is going on around the world, but we are all so attached to social media that we forget how to truly interact with someone.

Q1: Do you think social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook or Twitter are beneficial or harming to our generation? I think it's a mixture of both. Q2: Explain why in at least 1 sentence. It can be harmful because children (normally under the age of 13) abuse it and can get themselves in a lot of trouble, but it can benefit, because ultimately it's just another way of getting closer to other people.

*Furthermore, your real name is required on Facebook, and there have been reports of employers asking for passwords to access your account during your job interview. (scary but true). I just wanted to edit that sentence a bit

I think that Social Media can be a great thing, I believe that Social Media should be a privilege not a right. I think that Social Media can really be dangerous for kids who are not mature, for example; talking to strangers on the internet is not always safe. Social Media is often portrayed by kids to be the place where you bully others. Some kids (even adults) don't realize that what you put on the internet stays on the internet. If you're 12 years old and you're posting inappropriate things on facebook and etc. and your future employer found it searching you up, you most likely wont be getting that job! A lot of people dont realize how damaging Social Media can really be in the long run when you either post inappropriately or too personally. Social Media doesn't have rules but you should know when not to post something.
