Can someone re-word this and add to it if I missed anything? In the late 1800s the United States had ended the war with Spain, while it was under the administration of President McKinley. After the war the two countries had to draw up a peace treaty, and they did this in France . McKinley wanted Spain to give up Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. The United States and Spain argued for quite a while before Spain gave in. The two fought over the Philippines, eventually Spain agreed, but wanted $20,000,000 for all the islands in the Philippines.
