Just get n alone
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
oh ok
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
but how?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[\frac{ -2n-2 }{ 3 }=12\] First thing we're gonna do is multiply both sides by 3.
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
6/9=36

The 3's would cancel out. You must have multipled the left side by 3/3, which actually equals 1. It should look like this\[-2n-2=36\] The next step would be to add the 2 on both sides.
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
sorry was feeding da cat
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
so n=36?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
You tell me. If you plug 36 in for n in the original equation, will you get 12?
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
no nono no

OpenStudy (anonymous):
What is -2+2?
OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2+2 is the same as 2-2. 2 minus 2.
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
so its not negitive4?
im probably drivingyou crazy sorry
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Does 2 minus 2 equal -4?
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
no its 0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Then -2+2=0 as well

Sooooooooo\[-2n+0=38\] which is the same as\[-2n=38\]Now just divide both sides by -2.
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
32divided by -2 =-16
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Where did this 32 come from? We're working with a 38.
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
misread srry
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
its -19

OpenStudy (randomecorner):
i ow u big time
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So \[n=-19\] Now all that's left is to plug in -19 for n in the original equation and see if it matches up.
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
yep
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So that means that -19 is the answer
OpenStudy (randomecorner):
sorry i took a lot of time from you
