What media/cabling is the most common and for what reason?

Copper cabling, specifically UTP. The reason why is because it is extremely cheap, unlike STP, or fiber cabling. \(UTP = \) Unshielded Twisted Pair. \(STP =\) Shielded Twisted Pair. The main reason why UTP is not used is when there is possible heavy interference. (Or long distance, which in that case fiber is more likely to be used.)
