Aida practiced the shot put and recorded her progress over time. The scatter plot shows the distance she put the shot over time. According to the model, how far could Aida put the shot when she began practicing? http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1549000_1549500/1549033/1/850d285d93a8f46361481d86ee0689d102655db4/MS_IMC-141015-1081515.jpg
plz somebody i might fail math :(
The dots on the scatter plot are the actual data points that she gathered, what ACTUALLY happened. The line is a "model" for those data points, a straight line that is closest to as many points as possible. It doesn't record what actually happened, but it gives us a good guess. The question asks "according to the model," so it's telling us to use that line of best fit. So, according to the line, how far could she throw when 0 months had passed?
i dont get it srry
wait would it be 3 months?
Using the line, we take an input (the months practiced) and the line will tell us how far she could throw after that amount of time. The question is asking us to find how far she could throw when the time practiced was 0 months, at the far left of the graph.
k
So, when the time is 0 months, what is the height of the line?
7 right
Yup!
Just to help you understand better, can you answer this? According to the model, predict how far Aida could throw the shot put after 4 months.
3?
i dont really know how this one works
OK. Along the bottom of the graph, move right until you get to 4 months. Then, follow the grid line straight up until you get to the model line. Once you reach the line, go straight left until you reach the edge of the graph. You should be at one of the numbers for distance.
oh 15
Yup!
thanks would u mind helping me a few more
Sure, no problem!
k let me post them
