Can someone help me with a question for a fan and medal?
Some steps to rewrite the expression x3 - 16x + x2 - 16 as a product of three factors are shown below: Step 1: x3 - 16x + x2 - 16 Step 2: x3 + x2 - 16x - 16 Step 3: x2(x + 1) - 16(x + 1) Which of the following best shows the next two steps to rewrite the expression? Step 4: (x2 + 16)(x + 1); Step 5: (x + 4)(x + 4)(x + 1) Step 4: (x2 - 16)(x + 1); Step 5: (x + 4)(x + 4)(x + 1) Step 4: (x2 - 16)(x + 1); Step 5: (x - 4)(x + 4)(x + 1) Step 4: (x2 + 16)(x + 1); Step 5: (x - 4)(x + 4)(x + 1)
it should be the third option because...
Step 3: x2(x + 1) - 16(x + 1) we would take the terms on the outside and put them in a set of parenthesis so... (x2-16) then we notice the one on the side is (x+1) and its the same twice so we rewrite it one time therefore step 4 would look like (x2-16)(x+1)..... Next for step 5 we need to factor out the perfect square binomial (x2-16) to turn it into (x+4) and (x-4).... this is because there is a specific rule for that... the whole step 5 looks like (x - 4)(x + 4)(x + 1)
i hope that makes sense!! :D :))
Alright, thank you for you're help! I understand now. It does make sense, thank you again. Now here is your medal and fan as promised.
aw thank you much!
What I don't understand is when I first posted this question, some dude came in the thread just to give me a medal and then left :/ The thing is I'm fine with a medal as long as I get help!
haha yeah I was wondering where that medal came from :D
Well, now you know. Thanks again for the help. I will tag you in another question if your online when I need the help then.
alright, i'll try ;)
Thank you!
