A porch has the shape of a quarter circle with a diameter of 5 ft. What is the approximate area of the porch, rounded to the nearest square foot? Use 3.14 to approximate π.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

@jabez177

jabez177 (jabez177):

Remember the formula of a quarter circle?

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

i'm guessing 3.14 x 5 ?

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

umm no, sorry.

jabez177 (jabez177):

I remember I skipped this lesson... xD

jabez177 (jabez177):

Let me google it.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

kay.

jabez177 (jabez177):

Here! I had to look through my previous lessons. http://prntscr.com/7f3u1u

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

3.14 x 2.5 x 2.5 = 19.625? maybeh?

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

is that the answer? ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the circumference then divide it by 1/2 then 1/2 again to find it.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

so 3.14 x 5 =15.7 div 2 = 7.85 div 2 = 3.925?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh area sorry give me a sec

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area=πr^2, and if your trying to find a quarter of that then you can divide by 1/2 twice. SO ya it looks like you got it right.

OpenStudy (gabbyalicorn):

:d yay C:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply by 1/2 not divide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry for that mistake. Good Job
