In the equation 5 - 10m = 3m^2, the value of b is: 5 -10 10

OpenStudy (rhystic):

is it 3m^2 or 3m*2 or 3m+2 or 3m-2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Rhystic 3m^2

OpenStudy (rhystic):

ok so you have 0 = 3m^2+10m - 5 and you need to use the quadratic formula to solve : m = -b +/- (b^2-4ac)^.5 / 2a . c = -5 a = 3 and b = 10 so you have: -10 +/- (10^2-4(3)(-5))/(2*3) => -10+/-(100+60)^.5/6 -> -10+/-(160)^.5/6 -> -5+/- 2*(10)^.5/3 solve that and you have your answer. You should have one negative and one positive due to the +/-.
