to work out the area of a rectangle you multiply the 2 sides of the rectangle together (Area = length x width). So in the example shown you have to work out the surface area of an 8cm by 4cm by 6cm cuboid. The area of the right and left faces of the prism are 6 x 4 = 24 cm^2
