Not necessarily. They may performed the experiment under different set of conditions, like for example, if it were something like growing a plant (which probably can't be done in a day!), it may have not grown to the same height due to a cloudy day with little or no sun. In this example the students really didn't have an effect on the variable, and they didn't do anything wrong. However they may have used their equipment incorrectly which may have lead to some errors overlooked. Assuming they are doing everything correctly exactly like yesterday I think the answer is no.
