similie - evident comparison using as or like 
              eg = as hard as rock
metaphor - hidden comparison 
                   eg = arjun was the lion of the family

irony - when the same thing happens to you that you mock others for
         eg = a child mocks her mother for her bad teeth and she herself develops bad teeth in the future
