Which of the following themes is present in both the tales of Calypso and the Lotus Eaters? A. The negative consequences of trusting gods and goddesses cannot be changed. B. Although places may look beautiful, they are often dangerous. C. Distractions can lead people off course and prevent them from reaching their goals. D. It is unwise to be so curious about exploring strange new lands.

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

I would say B or C; most likely C because Calypso's island doesn't really have that "beauty lure" to it like the Lotus Eaters island did, but both distracted Odysseus' crew from their course. Of course, D sounds logical - but nobody said anything about Odysseus exploring Calypso's island; he got stranded there, not randomly happened upon it and decided to explore.
