Which uses the correct modifiers for formal writing? We all wanted to win so badly that we were practically willing the ball through the hoop. We all wanted to win so bad that we were practically willing the ball through the hoop.

Hmm. I can't be a credible source on this but I would say "badly" is the correct grammatical usage, though people often say "bad" in conversations. I'm not sure whether the use of "bad" is slang or not. You probably need to make sure with another person 'cause I'm not sure ^^;
