FAN AND MEDAL!!! Solve for x: 2 over 3 (x - 4) = 2x. A) 2 B) -2 C) -8 D) -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is your understanding of this question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't let the variables on both sides throw you off :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tried it but the fractions are throwing me off.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, it's always those pesky fractions… remember to get rid of them, take it's inverse on both sides of the equation! Like this:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think an inverse operation means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It means to multiply the opposite (or reciprocal) of the fraction on both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For example… if I were trying to get rid of 1/2, I would multiply it by 2/1 on both sides. Is it clear so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes So it is now 2x - 8 = 6x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get -8 and 6x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it B?
