Sue has to cut her grandma's grass this weekend and wants to know exactly how much area she will be cutting. Calculate the area of the polygon. Be sure to show all your work and explain your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What does the polygon look like?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you have no ideas at all at this point?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No im sorry... im just confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, ok... and what math is this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean like is this Algebra or geometry or what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like which class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

geometry i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 6th grade math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhhhhhh I see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And this picture is the exact picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but i made it on here where it says draw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One of your sides says 25ft, but another side that is shorter says 35ft. Im just wondering ifthat was a typo?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No its exact

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Usually with a compound polygon like that, you try to divide it into two or more smaller simpler polygons whose areas you know how to calculate. For example, divide it into rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that part but i just dont know how i should do it i dont wanna do it wrong. @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also one of your sides is cut off so i cant see the measure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its all the way to the right
