Well, imagery is words made to put an image in your mind, so discriptive words. syntax is just proper sentence structure. and tone is creating a feel for the story, making it seem happy, sad, scary etc. So the only one left would be irony.
Tone? Its sound more likely for that to be the answer since its giving you a feeling of loneliness as he has trouble either forgetting her or remembering her.
