You get four lines:\[+(x+y) + (x-y) = 8\tag{1}\]\[+(x+y) - (x-y) = 8\tag 2 \]\[-(x+y) +(x-y) = 8\tag 3 \]\[-(x+y) - (x-y) = 8 \tag 4 \]

Of course the graph for these four lines and \(|x+y| + |x-y| = 8\) is not identical, but both of them still make a square.
