Written equation I'm unable to get. Please help. "Mike wants to make meatloaf. His recipe uses a total of 7 pounds of meat" If he uses a 3 to 1 ratio of beef to pork, how much pork will he use? Enter your answer as a mixed number in simplest terms.

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

okay, first add 3 + 1 and what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yes and now what does 7 divide by 4 equal to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.75.

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yes and now... do they want it as a fraction or whole number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"A mixed number in simplest terms".

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

okay, well a mixed number means a WHOLE number and a fraction... So since we have 7/4 = 1.75 We want to change 1.75 to a mixed number... Therefore we know 1 will remain 1 (as a whole number) but what does 0.75 equal to as a fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 3/4

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yes! That's correct :) good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How old are you?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I feel you.

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):
