So, knowing that density of anything if found by mass over volume, you need to find the mass next. that's the easy part. Once you know both mass and volume, you have to divide them as I showed: mass/volume. That gives you density, which is unique for each element. Thusly, if the object's density was not the same as the known density of pure gold, then it's not pure gold. "
