what about ferdinand?
Well he was a linguist, who was born in 1857 and that's roughly when the Romantic Age ended. Karl Marx is out of the question and Umberto Eco is still alive. Considering the time frames, in which the people lived, the most suitable would be Jean-Jacques Rousseau (although for me he best represents the Enlightenment in France).
