The formula for the midpoint between any pair \(a\) and \(b\) is this: \[m=\frac{a+b}2\] It's the average! If you can't remember, there is a derivation. The whole length between \(a\) and \(b\) is \(b-a\). The distance from \(a\) to the midpoint is \(\frac12(b-a)\). Then simplify! So, the midpoint is at \(a+\frac12(b-a)\). \[a+\frac12(b-a)=\\a+\frac12b - \frac12a=\\\frac12b+a-\frac12a=\\\frac12b-\frac12a=\\\frac12(b-a)\]
