Spartan women benefited a great deal from the story of the warrior woman in mythology, folklore, and history. In fact, unlike women in Athens, Spartan women were taught to read and write. How do you think this empowered women at that time?

Women in Classical Athens (5th and 4th centuries BC) were generally held in lower regard than men. Their exact status depended on whether they were a slave, metic, or freeborn woman, as well as on their occupation, yet, even freeborn women were not considered to be true citizens,[1] and lacked rights compared to citizen men.
