what does median mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UsukiDoll

OpenStudy (anonymous):

denoting or relating to a value or quantity lying at the midpoint of a frequency distribution of observed values or quantities, such that there is an equal probability of falling above or below it. i got this off the internet :)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

this questions is ironic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the median of the data set: 520, 471, 516, 485, 500, 528?

OpenStudy (rational):

median mean lmao

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the median of the data set: 520, 471, 516, 485, 500, 528?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iloveyou;*

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the median is the middle term is a set of data, eg if the data was 7, 393, 3, -6, 88, 3, 75, 5, 5, 5, 0, 1, 4, first we sorting the data into order ... -6, 0, 1, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 5, 7, 75, 88, 393, | the median is now in the middle: 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im sorry i suck at math :/ but im good for finding definitions lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh yea thats right ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the median of the data set: 520, 471, 516, 485, 500, 528? this one dont have a middle

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

again, arange them into order first

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

because there is an even number of elements this time, there will be two 'middle' terms: say a and b then median is now (a + b) / 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think my answer is

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what does the data look like when arranged into order?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UnkleRhaukus 471,485,500,516,520,528

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UnkleRhaukus

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

471, 485, 500, 516, 520, 528 | | a b median = (a + b) / 2 = (500+516) / 2 =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 501

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

= (500+516) / 2 = (2*500+16) / 2 = 500 + 16/2 =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 258

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

= 500 + 16/2 = 500 + 2*8/2 = 500 + 8 =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

what number is halfway between 500 and 516?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50
