Help for a medal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The data below shows the average number of text messages sent daily by a group of people: 7, 8, 4, 7, 5, 2, 5, 4, 5, 7, 4, 8, 2, 1, 8 What will be the effect of introducing an outlier in the data? The mean number of text messages sent daily will increase. The mean number of text messages sent daily will decrease. The median number of text messages sent daily will increase. The median number of text messages sent daily will decrease.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

The median doesn't really get too affected with an outlier, as much as how the mean gets affected. So I would say that since an outlier is a data that it completely out of range from the rest, it might as well decrease the mean.
