Compare and contrast metaphors and similes and their purposes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure if this will help any but to me metaphors are used to make complex ideas or concepts easier to understand while similes compare two different ideas together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thx but you tried to help that's all that matters

OpenStudy (saucvi):

OpenStudy (saucvi):

The purposes are to give maximum information with minimal words. The purpose of the simile is to give information about one object that is unknown by the reader by comparing it to something with which the reader is familiar.
