Help with factoring for a medal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 - 36 Can someone walk me through on how to do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you see, I kinda know how to do this, but I want to make sure the way i did it is correct. What I did was I chose two numbers that would when multiplied equal -36 and I ended up with (x + 6) (x - 6) is that correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\( x^2-36 = (a+b)(a-b) = (x+6)(x-6)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes correct

Alright, thanks! Its the fact that this was so simple made me wonder if I actually did it correctly.
