Does this function have a maximum or minimum value? What is that value?

OpenStudy (jack1):

do you know how to find the equation for this function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, not really...

OpenStudy (jack1):

ok... well just looking at it then.... there's a minimum y value of -9

OpenStudy (jack1):

but the maximum y value... as its a parabola there isn't one

OpenStudy (jack1):

also with the x values.... its a vertical parabola.... so it appears to continue out both left and right to infinity... so no maximum or minimums there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so... the answer is (-9,∞)?

OpenStudy (jack1):

well... no, that's kinda more how you write coordinates (x,y) and the min y value is -9... not the mix x value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

....i'm confused now...

OpenStudy (jack1):

well... if you were going to write it as a a coordinate... the coordinates for the minimum y value are ( 3, -9 ) other then that, there are no minimum x values or maximums

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm still confused on the subject a bit, but you've helped me. thank you.

OpenStudy (jack1):

ok... this page breaks it down a bit better than me ... if it helps? http://www.themathpage.com/acalc/max.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much. i'll read up to know better.
