What is the transformation that occurs to the equation y = 2x if the equation changes to y = 2x-3 + 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help!

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

firstly simplify: y = 2x - 3 + 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay...

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

so what does -3 + 4 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yes :) So y = 2x - 3 + 4 is the SAME as y = 2x + 1 (all we did was simplify... So now if we compare y = 2x to y = 2x +1... the "2x +1" just means that it will shift UP by 1 unit...

thank you so much. you helped alot! :)

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

you're welcome :)!!
