1) I surprised my friend when I bought her a blue dress!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain how you got that?

OpenStudy (xxmuslimxx):

Um...sure?

OpenStudy (xxmuslimxx):

1. Surprise is present tense, you are speaking about the past because later on in the sentence you said 'buyed' The sentence is now: I surprised my freind because I buyed for my freind blu: dress 2. This sentence contains a plural spelling error: 'buyed' is expected to be the past sense of buy but the correct past sense of buy is bought. The sentence is now: I surprised my freind because I bought for my freind blu: dress 3. Friend is also misspelled. You should switch around the 'ei' so it is 'ie' in the word 'friends. The sentence is now: I surprised my friend because I bought for my friend blu: dress 4. You are talking about the color blue, so note that it is spelled with an 'e' at the end. The sentence is now: I surprised my friend because I bought for my friend blue: dress 5. Now, you do not need a colon between blue and dress because a colon is used to indicate that a writer is introducing a quotation or a list of items, etc. The sentence is now: I surprised my friend because I bought for my friend blue dress 6. You are talking about ONE (single) dress so you should say 'a (blue) dress' The sentence is now: I surprised my friend because I bought for my friend a blue dress 7. Now we need to know whether this friend is a he or a she because we can't call this friend, 'my friend' throughout the sentence. The sentence is now: I surprised my friend because I bought for her a blue dress 8. Since because replaces since, we will replace because with WHEN (I told you why in the PM) The sentence is now: I surprised my friend when I bought for her a blue dress 9. We no longer need the word 'for' in there since 'her' says it all. The sentence is now: I surprised my friend when I bought her a blue dress 10. Now, we need to add punctuation at the end. In this case we will use a exclamation point, '!'. The sentence is now: I surprised my friend when I bought her a blue dress!
