∆ABC is similar to ∆PQR. AB¯¯¯¯¯ corresponds to PQ¯¯¯¯¯, and BC¯¯¯¯¯ corresponds to QR¯¯¯¯¯. If the length of AB¯¯¯¯¯ is 9 units, the length of BC¯¯¯¯¯ is 12 units, the length of CA¯¯¯¯¯ is 6 units, and the length of PQ¯¯¯¯¯ is 3 units, then the length of QR¯¯¯¯¯ is ______(fill in) units and the length of RP¯¯¯¯¯ is ________(fill in) units.

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

do you have a picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is no picture... :(

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

ok first thing i would do is draw out your triangles and fill in the known lengths

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

if you do that you will see that AB is 9 and PQ is 3 being similar triangles all the angles will work with that ratio. So doing 9/3 which ='s 3 you would divide the other angles by 3 so BC is 12 so divide that and you find QR

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1434992376428:dw|I'm not sure where to go from this, lol.

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

do you need me to draw it out or did that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, I do not understand?

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

ok ill draw it out one moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, thank you.

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I just cut the proportions in half?

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

thirds, i set the problems up for you here does it make sense now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I will let you check my answers in a moment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WOW. No the second one should be two, right? Wow me.

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

nope. Think of it like the last problem this is all just proportions. Think the triangle on the right is 1/3 the size of the other one and you just divide all the lengths on the left by 3 so QR = 4 and Rp = 2

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

wait yes to that lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Welp, I feel dumb, lmao.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sweet, I passed!

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

XD we all make those mistakes at one point or another

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

100%?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I blame me going to bed at 2 and waking up at 6. And no, I got 4/5 correct though. It was from a question I tried to do on my own, lol.

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

lol ok if you want to redo it at any time for a 100 ill help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If only I could lol. Auto submits, no retries unless I fail. :(

OpenStudy (baseballguy101):

oh wow my class I can redo up to 3 times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lucky. :(
