Which best describes decolonization efforts in Vietnam after World War II? Vietnam was temporarily divided into a non-communist south and communist north. French soldiers sided with Vietnamese independence through their refusal to fight. The French government gave the United States the authority to dismantle colonial Indochina. With British support, French officials handed over power freely to Ho Chi Minh.
