MEDAL!!!! 20. Combine like terms. What is a simpler form of each expression? 9c-6d+4c-3d
9c + 4c - 6d - 3d. 9c + 4c = 13c, so overall, it simplifies down to 13c - 9d.
okay thanks one question! 6d-3d=3d? so wouldn't it be 13c-3d?
What are your answer choices?
there are no answer choices
@butterflydreamer
Do you know how to simplify?
yes
so 13c-9d is the answer?
let me check first we rearrange the terms 9c+4c-6d-3d
we are just adding for c 9c+4c = 13c we are dealing with negative numbers for d -6d-3d = -9d so let's modify the problem 9c+4c+6d-3d
the c portion remains the same.. we just have to figure out what 6d-3d is
3d
mhm so the answer is 13c+3d
yes thanks
When we are dealing with problems like -6d-3d both of these numbers are negative so the negative sign remains and your number should increase the problem can also be re-written as -6d+(-3d) but normally the + sign is dropped because writing 2 signs at once is frowned upon, so it becomes -6d-3d 6d-3d is just normal subtraction.
oh.. so 13c+9d is the answer
sort of .. the negative sign stays for -6d-3d
-6d is negative -3d is also negative -6d-3d produces a bigger negative number.. d(-6-3) (I factored out the d to make it easier to see that -6-3 = -9)
so 13c+9d is the answer
. 13c-9d was the correct answer... I typed that we have a negative number and another negative number.... which is -6d-3d .. that negative sign stays.
I'll use a number line |dw:1435040305329:dw|
we have the problem -6-3... I start at -6|dw:1435040356711:dw|
-3 means I have to move 3 units to the left. -6-3 = -9|dw:1435040379706:dw|
