Maybe go with the cause of because agent means a person or thing that causes something to happen and although it makes sense with the first part it may be inconsistent to the second part of the sentence.

well, I was just thinking also like "cleaning agent" which means product that cleans, which could go both ways, the power to clean, or causing cleanliness, lol idk.... but, I think im just gonna go with my gut feeling. :)
