What would cause descrepancies experimental results and literature values

Literature values and experimental results can differ for so many reasons but it really depends on what experiment you are doing. Like if you use a separation funnel sometimes you can't get all of the organic later out and you have to leave some behind in the aqueous layer. Other times it can be due to not weighing out your initial start product out correctly. Sometimes it can be due to contamination. But really it depends on which experiment you are doing
