Can someone help me with this problem? I don't want the answer, I just want help. I'll post the question in the comments. It's a proportion question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill give it a shot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tried doing it myself and got 65/35. But that doesn't match one of the answer choices and it couldn't be simplified to one of those.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k give me a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know what x is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to solve it? I want to write it in my notes so I know how to do it later if a similar question comes up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you cross multiply to find x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then plug x back in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright you want the answer or do you wanna learn how solve it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to know how to solve it. This is what I did but I think I did it wrong somewhere.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you messed up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

on the left it should be 20x+10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but you started off correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, okay! That makes sense. Whoops.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now retry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll do it again and see what I get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea he's right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 3. Is that right?

OpenStudy (freckles):

this not too much shorter but notice if you multiply the fraction on the left hand side by 7/7 you will have the same denominator on both sides and therefore you can just set the numerators equal on both sides and solve for x: that is: 7(x-1)=4x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes three is right for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thats what i got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now plug it back in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does the question just want 3 or is it asking to plug in? I thought it just wanted 3. I'll plug in for x and see what I get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh jk 3 is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I think so. Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe its just 3 cause its C buty good job man

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you too @atreyu6s3x6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wish i could medal myself
