Muslim armies carried their faith west across the top of the entire continent.

But to be fair to muslims, sometimes their faith has been spread through trade contacts and missionary effort, in particular I'm thinking of Eastern Africa and Indonesia.

(Violence has also been used to spread other religions at times, as I expect you are aware.)
