First step is not to be afraid of failing, allow urself to fail. From here is where you learn from your misstakes. This is how u learn and become more intelligent.

Some ways to achieve an intellectual development that I aware of and practice are:

1) play chess (esp. w/o a chessboard)

(Right now my chess action is limited to playing in tournaments
occasionally, playing w/o a board with my father, or playing quick
online games about 1m or 1m+1s.)

-------------------------------------------------------
2) learn different languages

(e.g. I know Russian Hebrew, English, Aramaic, and a little Yiddish.)

3) practice writing different types of an essay.

(In college I practiced research papers of different topics, full literature
explications, knowledge based essay with no resources and etc.)

4) solving very hard [for you] math problems (within your ability of course)!

-------------------------------------------------------
5) for me, learning my religious (I'm Jewish) books has majorly
developed me (intellectually).

(including memory and critical thinking)

6) learning anything (where you apply critical thinking, analysis
and have to really flex your brains) is a route to intellectual
development.
