When trees transpire, releasing gaseous water into the atmosphere, they can absorb heat from their environment and cool it down. What property of water is responsible for this activity? @dtaylor417

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

(probably a better question for the biology/chem sections but I'll answer anyway) water has a high specific heat, which means it can absorb large quantities of heat with a relatively small increase in temperature
