MEDAL AND FAN FOR HELP!

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

The youth group is going on a trip to the state fair. The trip costs $62. Included in that price is $14 for a concert ticket and the cost of 2 passes, one for the rides and one for the game booths. Each of the passes costs the same price. Write an equation representing the cost of the trip, and determine the price of one pass. Solve your equation by showing your work and steps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let the price for one pass be x so the total expenditure is 14+2x=62 solve the eqution

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

I don't know how to, can you help me step by step?

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

@nitishdua31

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will I guess so you got 14 + 2x = 62 is there an x value on both sides?

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct! So what do you do with the 14?

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

Keep it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops that's not right because if you keep it, the equation still isn't simplified. So you have to cancel the 14 how do you do that?

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

I Don't know. :( @alexistheking777

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You subtract 14 to both sides. What is: 14 - 14 + 2x = 62 - 14

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

How do I do the "x" part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't worry about the x part yet. To make it easier: What is 14-14? What is 62-14?

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

14-14=0 62-14=48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct since so 14-14+2x=62-14 is 0+2x=48 which is the same as 2x=48. Now what do we do to get rid of the two, remember we can't subtract because we will get 0= 2x + 48 which is wrong. So how do we get rid of 2x?

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

I don't know, how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You divide both sides by 2. So what is 2x divided by 2? 48 divided by 2?

OpenStudy (flvs.net):

I don't know how to do 2x/2 But 48/2= 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I will draw it out and it will seem easy.
