Word Problem, can someone tell me if this is right? Bryan is an art sculptor and is creating an art series made entirely of similar figures. He buys a Sponge Bob Square Pants figure and decides he wants to make a larger version that has sides 15 times bigger. If the area of the figure is 12.5 cm2, what is the area of his sculpture? Would I just multiply 12.5 by 15?

OpenStudy (misssunshinexxoxo):

S = 12.5 cm^2 12.5 = a^2 a = ~3.5356/3.54 cm Since the sides get 15 times bigger the length of the new side should be: a * 15 = 3.54 * 15 = 53.1 cm The area of the sculpture, also a square, can be found using the same formula but with different values for the sides. S = a^2 S = 53.1^2 S = 2819.61 cm^2
