Natural selection is when nature favors a specific trait, and only those with that trait in the environment can survive. Let me give you an example. Let's take people who live in who live dry regions like Africa. They have long limbs, and that's to increase the surface area making it more effective to rid of heat via evaporation, conduction convention. People who live in colder climates like antarctica have shorter limbs to retain cold. If we swapped the two groups you would have a massive response to the weather as either one may not adapt.
