Which is a factor of 3x2y2 + 6x2 + 12y2 + 24? 6 x2 + 2 y2 + 6 x2 + 4

OpenStudy (welshfella):

6 is not a factor because it will not divide into 3x^2y^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (welshfella):

you could use long division to find out which of the other 3 is a factor.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u do that?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

or possibly try to factor it by grouping that would be easier..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

remind me of how to o it by grouping, i forgot

OpenStudy (welshfella):

3x2y2 + 6x2 + 12y2 + 24 factor the first 2 and last 2 terms 3x^2(y^2 + 2) + 12(y^2 + 2) =(3x^2 + 12)(y^2 + 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thank you u remined me

OpenStudy (welshfella):

- that shows that y^2 + 2 is a factor but its not one of the options

OpenStudy (welshfella):

- hold on - factor 3x^2 + 12 and see what you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(x2 + 4)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

there you go

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks man

OpenStudy (welshfella):
